What kind of music do you usually listen to?
Lately, I’ve been enjoying ambient electronic music,
like Skyball beats and ByErik.
But the other day,
I suddenly felt like listening to something with vocals again.
So I searched on Amazon Music
and played the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“Maybe it’s been about a year,” I thought—
and then, By the Way started playing through the speakers.
Ah… yes.
I love this.
This is it.
That’s what I felt.
If my son had been with me,
I probably would have said,
“Hey, this is cool—Heisei-era mixture rock,”
and made him listen to it
(though he was at school at the time).
Dani California is another favorite of mine—
such an incredibly cool song.
In Japan, it was also used as the theme song
for the movie Death Note.
Listening to good music
makes me feel like I can get through the day.
To be honest—
I’m not someone who is deeply attached to music.
I’m not the kind of person who feels
“I can’t live without it.”
There are plenty of days
when I don’t listen to music at all.
On days like that,
the hum of the aquarium filter,
the gentle sound of water flowing,
the kettle heating up,
and the whistle when it starts to boil—
these everyday sounds
become my music.
Maybe they are
the most timeless kind of music of all.
Today, and tomorrow too,
I hope beautiful “sounds”
find their way to your ears.
あなたは、普段どんな音楽を聴きますか？
私は最近、Skyball beatsやByErikなどの
アンビエントなエレクトロニック音楽をよく聴いています。
でも、ふと久しぶりに歌ものが聴きたくなって、
Amazon Musicで検索し、レッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズを流しました。
「一年ぶりくらいかな？」
そう思いながら、スピーカーから By the Way が流れてきた瞬間――
ああ、やっぱり好き。
これだよ、これ。
そう思いました。
もしそばに息子がいたら、
「平成のミクスチャーロック、クールだろう？」なんて言いながら
聴かせていたかもしれません（ちょうど学校の時間でしたが）。
Dani California も本当にかっこよくて、大好きな曲のひとつです。
日本では映画『デスノート』のテーマソングにもなっていました。
いい音楽を聴くと、
「今日も一日頑張ろう」と思えます。
ちなみに――
実を言うと、私はそこまで音楽に強いこだわりがあるわけではありません。
「音楽がないと生きていけない！」というタイプでもなく、
まったく音楽を聴かない日も普通にあります。
そんな日は、
水槽のフィルターのモーター音や、
水がチョロチョロ流れる音、
ケトルでお湯が沸く音や、
沸いたことを知らせるあの音――
そんな生活音たちが、私にとっての音楽になります。
もしかしたら、
飽きることのない、いちばん贅沢な音楽かもしれません。
今日も、そして明日も、
あなたの耳にも素敵な「音」が届きますように。
