At the beginning of the year, I had a rather vivid first dream.
In it, I was cutting an octopus into pieces on a wooden board with a sword.
It was strange, almost surreal — and it stayed with me long after I woke up.
If I were to draw the scene exactly as it appeared in the dream, it might feel too literal.
So instead, I began thinking about how to transform that image into something quieter, more symbolic.
As I explored different compositions, the piece gradually took its current form.
It was my first time drawing an octopus, so I spent a great deal of time studying reference materials — observing the texture of the skin, the movement of the tentacles, and the subtle shifts of light.
For this work, I used a mechanical pencil, ballpoint pen, and red colored pencil.
Rather than limiting myself to a single medium, I allowed each material to contribute its own strength.
By doing so, the piece naturally became something that feels true to my way of drawing.

蛸と刀
年の始まりに、少し印象的な初夢を見ました。
まな板の上で、刀を使って蛸をぶつ切りにしている夢です。
どこか現実離れしていて、不思議な感覚だけが強く残りました。
夢のままをそのまま描いてしまうと、
少しシュールになりすぎる気がしました。
そこで、その情景をどのようにアートとして昇華できるかを考えながら構図を探っていきました。
試行錯誤を重ねるうちに、
自然と今のかたちに落ち着きました。
蛸を描くのは今回が初めてだったので、
多くの資料を見ながら質感や動き、光の当たり方を丁寧に研究しました。
使用した画材は、シャーペン、ボールペン、そして赤の色鉛筆です。
ひとつの画材に縛られるのではなく、
それぞれの持ち味を活かしながら描いていくことで、
結果として自分らしい表現に近づけたように思います。
